Hello Pipe Enthusiasts!
In this edition of #BPIPipeInsights!, we highlight one of Bakrie Pipe Industries’ (BPI) flagship products that supports Indonesia’s telecommunication sector: Steel Telecommunication Poles. These products comply with the latest Telecommunication Specifications (STEL) established by PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, ensuring reliable and efficient infrastructure for both telephone and fiber optic networks.
What is STEL?
STEL (Telecommunication Specifications) is a technical standard for telecommunication equipment in Indonesia. For steel poles, STEL regulates dimensions, materials, fabrication methods, corrosion protection, and mechanical testing to ensure safe usage and compliance with national regulations.
Steel Telecommunication Poles According to STEL
BPI manufactures various types of steel telecommunication poles certified under the latest STEL documents:
- STEL L-003-2016 V.3.0 – Steel pole with joint
- STEL L-003-2021 V.4.0 – Steel pole with joint (latest version, enhanced specifications)
- STEL L-079-2020 V.1.0 – 6-meter galvanized pole without joint
- STEL L-085-2022 V.1.0 – 7-meter steel pole with 2 segments for distribution cables
- STEL L-086-2023 V.1.0 – 6-meter steel telecommunication pole
BPI Steel Telecommunication Pole Variants
There are 7 BPI iron pole products used for telecommunications and fiber optic cable distribution, namely:
- 7 m and 9 m poles based on STEL L-003-2016 V.3.0
- 7 m and 9 m poles based on STEL L-003-2021 V.4.0
- 7 m poles based on STEL L-085-2022 V.1.0
- 6 m poles based on STEL L-079-2020 V.1.0
- 6 m poles based on STEL L-086-2023 V.1.0
Advantages of BPI Steel Telecommunication Poles
- Structural strength: meets bending standard ≥ 245 MPa.
- Long lifespan: protected with galvanization or coating for corrosion resistance.
- Dimensional precision: thickness and diameter tolerances comply with STEL standards and certified by Telkom Indonesia Quality Assurance Test.
- Quality certification: ISO 9001:2015
Fabrication & Testing Process
- Steel telecommunication poles are produced using high-quality steel pipes according to the required type. Unlike steel poles for electricity, these products are officially referred to as steel telecommunication poles.
- Fabrication: steel pipes are manufactured and assembled into segments (if jointed).
- Welding: joints are welded using standard-compliant electrodes.
- Protection: galvanization or painting for surface protection.
- Mechanical testing: straightness test, bending test, and dimensional/weight measurement.
Conclusion
By adhering to STEL L-003, L-079, L-085, and L-086, BPI ensures that its steel telecommunication poles are strong, precise, and compliant with national standards.
For decades, BPI has been committed to supporting Indonesia’s telecommunication infrastructure through high-quality steel products. With the latest STEL standards, we are ready to be a strategic partner in providing reliable steel pole solutions for national telecommunication networks.
